South East Voluntary Championship 2024

 

Guildford Spectrum, Guildford hosted once again the highly anticipated South East Voluntary Championship on the 21st-22nd September, where girls from across the region get together to crown region champions across various age groups. Thirteen girls represented Woking GC across five age groups from Pre FIG Dev 1 to FIG Senior.

 

First up in Round 2 on Saturday were Talia Hewett and Sienna Lim. Despite their young age they put a fantastic display across all pieces coming home with a fantastic silver medal for Talia for her elegant and classy floor routine.

 

Finishing the day in Silver category was Annabella Higgins, whose consistent, classy and graceful work earned her 4th place All Around – just a whisker away from the 2nd place – as well as Bronze on Beam and Gold on Floor. To top up her fantastic results, she has qualified for the National Finals later in November as part of the South East team.

 

Woking were not done yet with some more fantastic results achieved on Sunday. Mia Vernon, Rayaan Hussain and Bella-Rae Cheeseman-Wheeler took the stage in Bronze Level in highly competitive field with over 50 gymnasts battling for medals as well as place in the South East team for the National Finals. The girls held their nerves and delivered superb routines with Bella-Rae stealing the show by winning bronze on bars, silver on beam as well qualifying for the National Finals by coming 4th All Around with a total of 45.350 points.

 

Round 6 hosted the FIG competition, which also served as qualifier for the well renowned Rose Bowl International held later in October. Despite the incredibly strong field of gymnasts consisting of GB Squad members, Woking’s Kimberley Ly, Maggie Rees and Lily Clarke-Moss raised to the occasion and delivered magnificent display of difficulties combined with excellence to share plenty of silverware in between them including 3rd place Over All for Kimberley Ly with a score of 42.600 as well as Silver on Vault alongside two bronze medals on Beam and Floor in the Aspire category. Maggie came 3rd on Vault and 2nd on Bars as well as narrowly missing Bronze in the AA coming 4th with a score of 43.550 and Lilly winning the Bars title across the whole FIG section with breathtaking display.

 As a reward for their effort all 3 girls were awarded a place for the forthcoming Rose Bowl competition as part of Surrey team.

 

 Last but not least were Larissa Fernandez, Aissa Costea, Annabelle Chau and Nicole Murdzhanova in the FIG Development Levels. In the Pre-FIG Dev 1 level Larisa sailed through with grace and confidence to ended up 6th All Around with a score of 46.90 as well as earning Gold on Beam with a whooping score of 12.60 following a fantastic display.

 In FIG Dev 1 Aissa and Annabelle were not holding back bringing some more accolades for Woking GC by sharing the bronze on Vault and Aissa claiming the silver medal on Bars with another astonishing display. To top up what was already a fantastic weekend for Woking GC, Nicole came 2nd AA with a total of 41.550 thus qualifying for National Finals in FIG Dev 2 as well as winning the bronze on Vault, Bars and Floor and claiming the title on Beam!
