Everyone at Woking Gymnastics Club is celebrating an incredible milestone as Ben Porter has been selected to represent Great Britain at the 2026 Summer Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal. Ben becomes the first gymnast in Woking Gymnastics Club history to be selected for the Youth Olympic Games, making this a truly special moment for both him and the club.

The Games, which will take place in November, are particularly significant as they will be the first Olympic event ever to be held in Africa, bringing together some of the world's most talented young athletes. Ben is one of just three male artistic gymnasts chosen to represent Great Britain and one of only six artistic gymnasts selected across the men's and women's teams.

For those who have watched Ben's journey over the years, this achievement comes as no surprise. Through countless hours of training, perseverance, and a determination to keep improving, he has established himself as one of the country's most exciting young gymnasts. His silver medal on Rings at the 2025 British Championships was just one example of the quality he has shown on the national stage.

Ben's path to Dakar has not always been straightforward. Like many athletes, he has faced challenges and setbacks along the way, including injuries, but he has continually shown the resilience and commitment needed to return stronger each time. His selection is a reward for years of hard work and dedication, both in and out of the gym.

Speaking about his selection, Ben said:

"I'm incredibly honoured to have been selected to represent Team GB at the Youth Olympic Games. It's a dream come true and an opportunity I've worked towards for a long time. I'm excited to test myself against some of the best young gymnasts in the world and make the most of every moment. I wouldn't be here without the support of everyone at Woking Gymnastics Club, especially my coaches and teammates who have been part of the journey."

Ben's achievement is also a landmark moment for Woking Gymnastics Club. With more than 1,500 members, the club has supported countless gymnasts on their own sporting journeys, but Ben is the first to earn a place at the Youth Olympic Games. His success is a fantastic example of what can be achieved through hard work, passion and a positive attitude, and it provides inspiration for the next generation of Woking gymnasts dreaming of representing their country one day.

As Ben prepares to head to Dakar and pull on the Team GB leotard, the entire Woking community will be behind him every step of the way. We cannot wait to watch him compete on one of the biggest stages in youth sport and create memories that will last a lifetime.

Congratulations, Ben. You've already made history at Woking Gymnastics Club, and we couldn't be prouder. Good luck in Dakar! 💙🤸‍♂️
