General Recreational Gymnastics Classes are for children aged 4 (attending school) to 17 years old. Our General Classes are packed with fun ways to learn recreational gymnastics. The children are split into age and ability groups. All our coaches are British Gymnastics qualified and DBS cleared.

Our classes
NOVICE: reception TO school year 6
We offer four novice classes:
Novice: Reception and school year 1
Novice 1: School Year 1, 2 and 3
Novice 2: School Year 2, 3 and 4
Novice 3: School Year 3, 4, 5 and 6
Our Novice classes last 1 hour and gymnasts work through each stage within novice depending on their age, with the difficulty and progressions increasing as participants progress through these classes. Each class begins with a structured warm up and weekly activity where we reinforce basic shapes and begin to develop balance and co-ordination. The gymnasts are then split into groups by ability and use all our men's and women's artistic gymnastics apparatus where they are taught by their coaches developing their skills and confidence whilst having lots of fun.

KEY STEPS: AGE 4 - 7 YEARS
Our Key Steps class is for our novice gymnasts who are showing great focus and a potential for gymnastics. This class is an hour in length and gymnasts will work on all apparatus. Entry into this class is through coach selection only and gymnasts will be chosen from our pre-school and novice classes.
Intermediate: Age 7 - 13
We offer two Intermediate classes:
Intermediate 1: Age 7 - 10
Intermediate 2: Age 10 - 13
These classes are aimed at gymnasts who have acquired a strong set of basic skills. These classes last 1.5 hours and are divided by age. They include a structured warm up and time using all of the apparatus, where we focus on building strength and confidence whilst learning new higher level skills in a fun and challenging environment. Our Intermediate gymnasts begin to link their skills and are introduced to basic tumbling, as well as developing a strong set of skills on our men's and women's artistic apparatus.

These classes are aimed at gymnasts who have acquired a strong set of basic skills. These classes last 1.5 hours and are divided by age. They include a structured warm up and time using all of the apparatus, where we focus on building strength and confidence whilst learning new higher level skills in a fun and challenging environment. Our Intermediate gymnasts begin to link their skills and are introduced to basic tumbling, as well as developing a strong set of skills on our men's and women's artistic apparatus.
Advanced: Age 9 +

Advanced classes last 2 hours and are suitable for gymnasts with a strong background in gymnastics. These classes have a large focus on improving the gymnast’s strength, flexibility and performing their skills to a high standard. They participate in weekly progressions aimed to learn more challenging skills on all our men's and women's artistic equipment. We aim to develop the gymnasts understanding and knowledge of the skills they learning whilst refining skills they have previously achieved.
Advanced classes last 2 hours and are suitable for gymnasts with a strong background in gymnastics. Advanced + / Teen Gym: Age 13 - 17
Our Advanced + classes last 2 hours and offer our older gymnasts greater flexibility in their sessions. These classes begin with a structured warm up and reinforcement of the basics. Gymnasts are then divided into smaller groups where they work with a coach on our men's and women's artistic gymnastics apparatus. At the end of each session participants are given free time where they are able to work on the specific skills and equipment they wish.
Open Drop in: Age 8 - 17
Our Sunday pay as you go classes offer more freedom for participants to concentrate on specific skills of their choice. Our experienced coaches will also be on hand to help with any skill requirements!

Tumbling: Age 8+
A new class to Woking Gymnastics Club! We are excited to now be offering a dedicated tumbling class for gymnasts aged 8+! Entry into this class is through selection only however if you child has an interest in joining this class please speak to a member of our team.
Badge SchemeAll recreational classes are delivered to achieve the skills on our in house badge scheme. This program encompasses a series of progressively more challenging skills from basic shapes and rolls, right through to advanced skills on all apparatus. Once a level has been mastered, gymnasts will be awarded with a certificate and badge in recognition of their achievements.

Gymnast of the term One gymnast per class is selected as Gymnast of the Term. This termly accolade is awarded to the gymnast who shows particular commitment, improvement and good behaviour during their sessions. In addition to this at the end of each session we give out a 'Star of the Week' award for the child who we feel has worked particularly hard or made significant progress.

Club FestivalAll our gymnasts are also invited to take part in our annual club festival, providing them with an opportunity to show their skills in a competition setting, as well as allowing them to participate in, and enjoy group displays. We run our club festival annually, within our summer term.

Our recreational classes run for 46 weeks of the year.
Monday 28th August - Monday 18th December 2023 inc
Please note: Classes run as usual through the half terms and the Easter holidays (excluding Good Friday and Easter Monday). We will be closed throughout August and for two weeks at Christmas.
These classes require insurance which is £20 annually paid directly to British Gymnastics.
