Sunday 19th May saw over 60 of Woking’s competitive floor and vault gymnasts take part in the Surrey Floor and Vault competition at Guildford Spectrum.
The day began with our Novice gymnasts who all had a fantastic competition. In the Under 8 girl’s category, Poppy Ramshaw, Lexi Harmsworth and Lily-Ann Hodge showed off their beautiful floor routines to place 4th as a team, narrowly missing out on a podium finish. In the Under 8 boy’s category, Mac Griffiths, Max Chidley and Frankie Shapiro collected the bronze medal, whilst Oscar Carr, Charlie Lines and Nicholas Marwood took home the silver. In round 2, it was the turn of the intermediate gymnasts and they certainly did not disappoint. Maia Harmsworth, Tallulah Gurney and Jessica Robson excelled to win gold in their subdivision, followed closely by Jamie Simon, Amelie Power and Ella Carlson who collected silver, whilst Josephine Clark. Imani Tyler and Sophia Harris claiming bronze. Gracie Beight, Sofia Wieringa and Chloe Neep also took bronze in their category, with Scarlett Davies, Megan Wall and Jessica Wall claiming gold. The last of the girls in round 2 were in the Under 14 category with Holly Scanlon, Penelope Holmes and Freya Baston achieving bronze. The boys also impressed with Rafael Bontempo, Ethan Laurent and James Chandler earning bronze in their category. Harry Longhurst, Archie Johnston and Alfred Swift claimed silver in their category, whilst the Under 12 boys of Rhys Samuel, Ben O’Connor, Joshua Lines and Tom French won gold in their category. Excellent all around scores from Maia, Jamie, Megan, Jessica, Rhys and Ben means that they have qualified to compete at Advanced at the next competition. Round 3 saw medals awarded for both team performance and individual performance. Elenor Pearson, Tegan Fookes and Lexi Freeman won bronze as a team, along with individual gold for Elenor and bronze for Tegan. In the under 14 girls category, Eleanor Whitaker, Poppy Davies, Fern Johnsen and Brogan Barrott won team gold, with Eleanor also winning individual gold. In the under 10 mixed category, Max Pittard, Charles Dadswell, Faith Lusale and Josie Price took team bronze with Max and Charles winning individual gold and silver respectively, whilst Faith and Josie won individual silver and bronze respectively. The final round of the day was for the Bronze, Silver and Gold level competitors. In the under 14 Bronze girl’s category, Laura Kersley, Esme Finch and Olivia Kraus took team gold, with individual golds for both Laura and Olivia and individual bronze Esme. The over 14 Bronze girls Daisy Ryan, Olivia Pearson and Laila Greene claimed silver, with individual gold and silver for Laila and Olivia whilst Niamh Strange, Amber Mays and Roisin Fellowes claimed team bronze as well as individual gold, silver and bronze respectively. There were three teams competing at Silver, the first of which was the under 14 girls of Riley Morris and Ella Davies who achieved silver as a team and individual gold and silver respectively. Isabel Fearn, Alexandra Mulvey and Amy Smith won team gold, with all three earning individual silver as well. Jessica Weekes, Ellie Raby and Kate Lee rounded things off with a silver medal as a team, with individual golds for Ellie and Kate, and individual silver for Jessica. Congratulations to Olivia Kraus, Laura Kersley, Esme Finch, Laila Greene and Olivia Pearson for achieving their target score, meaning they will all compete at a higher level next time. A big well done to all of our gymnasts who competed on Sunday and a huge thank you to all of the coaches and judges that assisted with the competition.
