On Sunday the 17th September the Regional Qualifiers took place at Pegasus Gymnastics Club. Our boys were competing with the chance to make the South East Team and compete at National Finals in November.
The mornings session saw our Club Grade boys take to the floor, with boys in level 2 and level 5. Tristan Lamble and Illian Taylor were the level 2's. Tristan competed 7 nice and clean routines to take home the Silver medal all round and gain a spot in the team. Illian had a few errors through routine and finished 7th which meant he just missed out on the team but is first reserve. In the level 5 age group Laurence Butler, Christian Fuoco, Rudi Moriano and Charlie Rose were competing. Laurence Christian and Rudi had good comps and made sure it was a Woking clean sweep for the medal with them finishing 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively. This also meant they made the team for finals. Charlie unfortunately had some costly errors on his first apparatus which meant he finished in 5th missing out on a place in the team. The afternoons session had our Elite Grade representatives, with boys from level 1 guest, level 2, level 3 and level 4.Our Level 1 guest were too young to qualify for finals, but this competition gave a good marker for what to expect next year. Jake Palmer took home the Gold medal with a performance that was flawless, losing less than 5 marks through all 8 routines. Ben Porter claimed 2nd with another assured performance. 3rd place was taken by Harrison Lamble, who showed much improved routines throughout his comp. Max Veo-Creek took 5th place and Hayden Blackmun finished 6th. Level 2 and 3 had 4 Woking boys, Oliver Porter had a very good comp with one wobble right at the end, he finished 2nd in level 2, Jamaal Kashim finished 6th in the same level he showed some nice gymnastics but will need to work hard towards finals. Both boys will be at National Finals. Santo Fuoco and Tom O’Connor will both be at National Finals as well, the finished 1st and respectively, both boys showed good gymnastics but also had room for improvement. Level 4 had 2 more boys with Josh Porter taking home 3rd after a good comp with only 1 error through 8 routines. And Toby Splain took home 4th with routines that were nice but showed they could be better. Both boys will be at National Finals. Woking also took home the Presidents trophy, this Trophy represents the most successful club within the Regional competitions. Congratulations to all the boys that took part.
