On Sunday 1st October 37 of our intermediate and advanced, floor and vault gymnasts took part in the south east regional competition held at Guildford spectrum. It was a very large competition with over 500 entries from clubs across the region.
The day started very successfully with our girls in round one showing some very polished routines. At intermediate level we had two regional champions within their categories, Tegan Fookes and Lexi freeman. Olivia Kraus also picked a bronze medal and Amani Ali placed in 8th position. Our advanced girls also had a successful round with Amelia England placing second and Riley Morris becoming regional champion within the respective age categories. Round two and it was the boys turn to show their routines. In the intermediate level Ben Gurden and Ben O’Connor both placed second gaining silver medals, Darko Downer and Jacob Gurden also achieved bronze medals. Both John Burthom and Noah Schollick placed in 4th gaining rosettes and Jack Dadswell achieved 6th place with Rhys Samuel and Jack Harel not to far behind in a very tight group. We also saw some of our advanced gymnasts within round two, Toby Spencer won the silver, bronze for Felix Bushell and a joint 4th place for Archie Johnson. We also had some girls competing within this round, Katie Childress placed 5th place in her intermediate category. Tallulah Gurney competed in the intermediate level for the first time and showed confidence when performing her routines. Tilly swift competed in the advanced group where we saw her perform beautiful floor routine. The success continued into round three, with our advanced gymnasts Esme Finch and Arabella Wilson both showing fantastic vaults and controlled routines on floor within an extremely tough category. Leila Ricketts also competed at advanced level and achieved a very well deserved Silver medal. Fern Johnsen was our only intermediate level gymnast within the round and she achieved 4th place in a large group of 14 gymnasts. Our intermediate gymnasts Holly Scanlon and Laura Kersley both performed beautifully in round 4 showing off their floor routines with confidence. Amy Smith added to our list of regional champions in the advanced category with Hannah Doran placing 3rd in another very tough group. Daisy Ryan, Aria Gholkar and Olivia Pearson all performed new floor routines within their advanced competitions and showed good improvement on their vaults. The round finished with Laila Greene winning the silver medal, who also showed off her new floor routine for the first time. The final round of the day saw our intermediate gymnasts Amber Mays and Niamh Strange compete. The both showed clean routines and controlled vaults. Out of a large group with 16 gymnasts Amber finished in 6th place and Niamh took gold to become regional champion. The day saw some great performances from all of our gymnasts, we had 11 gymnasts achieving the required score to move to their next level of competition. Tegan, Lexi, Olivia, Laura and Niamh all achieved 15.50 or more and will now move into the advanced level. Riley, Leila, Toby, Laila, Amy, and Hannah all achieved 16.0 or more to move into the bronze level competition. Congratulations to all of the gymnasts who took part in the competition. A big thank you to all of the coaches and our judge Rishiel who helped these gymnasts on the day.
