The weekend of 22nd-23rd April saw 130 gymnasts from across the South East region descent in Guildford Spectrum, Guildford to decide who is going to be crown as South East Regional Champion in their respective grades.
Round 1 featured Zara Naidu & Kimberley Ly in Compulsory 2 and Nicole Murdzhanova in Compulsory 4. The compulsory 2 event acted as a warm up for the National Compulsory 2 competition that will take place in Stoke-on-Trent over the weekend of 20th-21st May. However, both Zara and Kimberley put in solid routines to demonstrate their excellent progress in one of the most challenging and competitive levels. Zara managed top 5 finishes on both Beam and Range, whilst Kimmie finished with the top score on beam and top 3 on floor and range, helping her to 2nd place all around. Nicole followed suit, posting the top score on range and the second highest scores on beam and floor on her way to securing all around bronze in the tightly contested compulsory 4 competition. In round 2 on Saturday, Woking had 3 gymnasts competing in the compulsory 5 competition. Annabelle Chau, Aissa Costea and Isabella Edgar all performed great routines to finish in the top 6 all around. Isabella, in a field consisting of several gymnasts years older than her, finished 5th on vault and 6th on bars, beam and range securing 6th all around. Aissa finished joint 1st on bars and 4th on beam to secure 5th all around. And Annabelle finished 2nd on beam and floor, 3rd on vault and range, 4th on bars to finish 3rd all around. The final round of Woking gymnasts took place on Sunday afternoon, with Bella-Rae Wheeler and Mia Vernon competing at National Grade 3, one of the busiest and hotly contested competitions of the weekend. Both gymnasts showed off good routines to comfortably pass their grade, with Bella finishing in an impressive 4th place all around in her age group, narrowly missing out on a medal. Mia ended the competition with the 2nd highest score on beam, whilst Bella ended with the highest score on range for the second consecutive year. A huge congratulations to all of the gymnasts and coaches for all of their hard work and for another successful competition.
