Regional Novice competition

10 of our floor and vault competitive gymnasts participated in the South East regional Novice competition on Sunday 2nd December. The event was held at Guildford spectrum and saw 350 gymnasts compete to become regional champions and achieve the qualifying score of 14.50 to move to the next level of competition.

Round one began with Lexi, Imani and Poppy. This was the girl’s first regional event and all 3 showed some fantastic routines. Lexi battled through her nerves to finish a respectable 11th place with a total score of 13.25 in her age category. Poppy had a small error on floor but continued with her competition to perform two very strong vaults and finished in 8th place with a total score of 13.30. Imani had a fantastic competition and showed confidence throughout earning a score of 14.60, achieving the qualification score and placing 1st to become regional champion.

Onto round two and it was time for our 2009 girls to compete Maia and Jessica. Both girls showed style and confidence, performing two powerful vaults and very elegant floor routines. Jessica finished in 7th Place with a total of 13.65 and just ahead was team mate Maia with a score of 13.70 in 6th place.

It was the boys turn in round three, for all 4 boys it was their first experience at a regional event. Samuel showed a great floor routine and enjoyed his competition to earn a score of 10.80 placing 12th, Rafael overcame his nerves on vault and achieved the same total score of 10.80 to join Samuel in 12th place. Slightly ahead was Victor with a total of 11.15 placing 11th. Completing the group with a total score of 13.85 was Charlie, he showed confidence throughout his competition to take the gold medal and become regional champion.

In the final round of the day Tom was our only competitor. After working extremely hard in the gym and showing determination during his sessions, he had a fantastic afternoon. Tom achieved a total score of 13.40 to achieve a well-deserved 2nd place.
