The final competition of the year saw gymnasts from all over Great Britain represent their regions at national finals. In total Woking had qualified nine gymnasts to the South East team.
The weekend began with the club development grades. Caden O’Shea performed some great routines to score 60 and help his Club level 3 team to Gold. Jay Coote was part of the Club 5 team that finished just outside the medals, he was top scorer on vault and his coaches were particularly pleased with his PPP score; nearly double what he had scored last year! Rio Chandiram was competing in his final grades competition and his first for the South East – he had a brilliant competition, performing seven clean routines and taking home the bronze medal all around. He also led his Club level 6 team to bronze and has been invited to the club reward camp at Lilleshall National Sports Centre! The club development grades continued Saturday. Oscar Mitchell was competing as an individual in the level 4 competition his score of 61.750 was enough for 15th place all around. Fionn Kelly and Declan Freeman were both part of the Club 2 team. They both competed superbly, delivering routine after routine to help the team to a silver medal. Individually they were delighted to finish 3rd and 9th respectively, both Fionn and Declan will be attending the reward camp in February and will get to work with the GB squad coaches at the national training centre. The elite competition began with Ben Porter in the elite 5 category. Ben demonstrated some top-quality work throughout the difficult routines to earn himself a bronze medal, just one mark off the gold. He has been invited to the national squad testing day in January to retain his spot in the GB development squad. With Sunday morning came the elite level 1&2 competition. William Middleton was competing in his first ever national competition and can be very proud of how he conducted himself, top scoring on P-Bars, he finished 9th overall, just missing out on an invite to testing. Mac Griffiths’ score of 58.600 helped the elite level 2 team to a bronze medal. Well done to all the gymnasts that competed and good luck to those travelling to Lilleshall for Testing and Reward Camp.
