The first weekend in September saw our boys trying out their grades routines for the first time in competition.
The weekend started with our Elite level 2 boys, Oliver Porter and Jamaal Kashim. Oliver finished in 7th place all around, hitting most of routines with just a few wobbles throughout, and a strong pbar routine won him a bronze medal. Jamaal showed some nice gymnastics through his comp but a few mistakes cost him, finishing a respectable 19th all around. That afternoon it was he turn of club level 2, Tristan Lamble and Illian Taylor were our competitors. Tristan started with 3 very strong routines, but a few weaker routines left him 32nd all around, Illian finished 51st in a steady comp. The last round of the day came our U8 elite level 1 boys, 5 Woking boys took to the stage. Jake Palmer had an almost flawless performance and took away the all around gold along with 3 golds and 1 silver on the apparatus, Ben Porter showed class in 5 of the 6 pieces but a low scoring pommel left him in 7th place, but he took home 2 bronze 1 silver and a gold on the vault with a perfect score of 10. Jay Coote showed some lovely gymnastics finished 13th, Max Veo-Creek and Harrison Lamble showed some good moments but had mistakes leaving them 16th and 17th respectively, these boys will now have a year to perfect these routines and be ready for the Grades next year. Sundays competition was busy, with Woking having 3 different ages going round in one group. Our elite level 3s Santo Fuoco and Tom O'Connor along with our elite level 4s Josh Porter and Toby Splain and club level 5s Laurence Butler, Rudi Moriano, Christian Fuoco, and Charlie Rose. Santo showed his ability to compete with the top boys in his age and finished 5th all around, Tom finished 9th and took home a bronze medal on the rings. Josh and Toby boys had mistakes throughout their comp but also showed some competent work and finished 8th and 14th. Laurence came away with a 5th place finish and showed style to to take home the bronze on floor, Rudi finished in 9th and showed his vaulting ability to take home silver on vault, Christian and Charlie showed consistency to finish 12th and 15th. Well done to all the boys who will now be getting ready for Grade Qualifiers on the 17th.
