The 2017 English Championships took place at Loughborough University on April 7th – April 9th. Woking had 7 boys competing in the competition; Jamie Lewis, Lorenzo Carrozzo, Timothy McCarthy, Fraser Griffiths, Jasper Smith Gordon, Toby Splain and Joshua Porter.
The Under 12 age category competed on the Friday and both Toby and Joshua were competing new upgraded routines. Both performed very well with only Josh falling on his Tippelt on Parallel bars. Toby finished 18th scoring 66.069 and Joshua finished 23rd scoring 65.735. Josh narrowly missed out on a medal on High bar finishing 5th. Saturday saw the Under 18 take centre stage, Jamie had another very good competition once again winning the All-Around English Championships Title scoring an impressive 81.084. Jamie also won Gold on Floor, Pommels and Rings, Silver on Parallel bars and Bronze on High bar. Lorenzo had a bad day struggling with a foot injury and counted a number of falls. Lorenzo finished 7th scoring 66.950. Timothy has a back injury and performed 4 clean routines finishing 5th on Pommels and 7th on Parallel bars. The final day of competition had Fraser and Jasper competing in the Under 16 age group. Fraser and Jasper performed with courage and style to compete 6 great routines with Fraser finishing 5th scoring 72.468 and Jasper 6th scoring 72.085 in the All-Around. Fraser also collected a Bronze on Pommels while Jasper just missed out on a medal finishing 4th on Vault and 5th on Pommels. Also over the weekend Craig Woodhams having recently qualified as a Brevet judge officiated his first International Competition, the World Cup at the O2 Arena. Well done Craig!
