Community programme
Woking Gymnastics Club is committed to serving the community and making our exciting sport accessible to as many people as possible. See below for some of our current work within the community...
Schools Gymnastics
On a weekly basis we work with a number of local schools, reaching participants who do not always have the opportunity to attend club classes. We provide weekly lunch time and after school classes, teacher training sessions, school trips, taster sessions, displays and coaching workshops.
Community Gymnastics
Within the community, we provide sessions for underrepresented groups including Surrey Young Carers. Our coaches visit local Surestart centres on a monthly basis delivering sessions for pre-school children, developing interaction and child development skills. The costs of which are funded through the club and we do not charge any of the groups for this community work.
On Friday evenings we offer our facility to local groups for hire. We also work in partnership with and support many local organisations including, Woking Borough Council, Dance Woking, Sport Woking, Active Surrey, Woking Rotary Club, Woking Inclusive Sports Club, British Gymnastics, South East Gymnastics and Surrey Gymnastics.
Disability Gymnastics
Woking Gymnastics Club is a registered ‘I’m In’ club, meaning we are dedicated to creating more participation opportunities for disabled participants. We are now running weekly sessions for two local schools - The Pond Meadow School and Freemantles. Both of these schools bring a class of children each week and are given full access to all equipment our dedicated facility. We have also continued working with the White Lodge centre on a weekly basis.
Additionally, after opening post COVID-19 lockdowns, we have continued to grow our inclusive department. We now offer a dedicated after school class for children with additional needs. Since its launch, in September 2021, this class has continued to grow in popularity, with a waiting list of over 10 children. The class offers children aged 5-17 the opportunity to participate in weekly gymnastics classes with our team of qualified coaches.
We also continually reach out to local disability groups to offer taster days and dedicated sessions. Within recent months we have run sessions for; Whitelodge, Sight for Surrey and LinkAble. Finally, we also support local disability events where possible. In recent months our coaches have supported the Surrey Para Games, with many children participating in gymnastics for the first time!
Fundraising
As a registered charity, we continually look to support other local charities through fundraising at the club. Recently, we have raised for £348.00 for Great Ormond Street and The Rainbow Trust. We have also supported the Lennox Charity through their 50:50 fundraiser.
Prizes and Vouchers
We support a number of other charities, schools and groups with their fundraising efforts by providing vouchers and prizes. We have recently donated to the National Childbirth Trust, Children in Need Raffle, Surrey County Care as well as many local schools.
Events
Woking Gymnastics Club attends and supports a number of community events including Woking's Party in the Park and Winston Churchill Summer Camp Week.
