Unfortunately we are once again having to temporarily cancel our club classes beginning Monday 4th January 2021. Sadly, whilst we remain in tier 4, we are not permitted to run classes at our club venue. To support all our members during this time, we have developed a NEW virtual programme to keep our gymnasts engaged and active.

All members should have now received details on this via email. If you have any questions please do not hesitate getting in touch - info@wokinggymnastics.co.uk

Due to recent Government announcements and school closures, we plan to temporarily suspend our classes after Friday 20th March until further notice. The health and safety of our members and staff is our greatest priority.

All members will receive an email today regarding the clubs future plans and payment information. As you can imagine, we have a large volume of enquires at this time, so please bear with us during these difficult times.

Once again, we are so grateful to all members who are able to continue supporting us, ensuring a future club for us to return to. We will continue to provide updates where possible via email, social media and on our club website. We will also be providing some small gymnastics activities via social media to keep our budding gymnasts entertained during this time, so keep your eyes peeled!

COVID- 19 UPDATE - 18/03/2020

18/3/2020

Thank you to all our members and staff for remaining patient and supportive during this time. We have received a lot of feedback from our members in regards to our current position and choosing to remain open for the time being. We would like to assure everyone that we are addressing all issues as they arise and are doing all we can to manage this challenging time. As such we will be unable to respond to all individual comments and emails at this time.

We fully appreciate and understand anyone’s decision to not come to the gym at present. There is no obligation to attend classes and is down to each individual’s personal discretion. As we are a registered ‘not for profit charitable organisation’, we reply solely on monthly fees to survive, so any financial support we receive during this time is greatly appreciated. We ask members to consider continuing with their direct debit payments during this period so we may continue to operate and grow well into the future. We are in a position where we wish to safeguard both our full and part time staff positions to ensure we have a fully operating club for the future.

Whilst schools remain open, we are following British Gymnastics and Government advice, with gymnastics falling under the education umbrella. Our sport encourages health, fitness and regular exercise, which the Government continues to promote. We are taking all necessary precautions in the meantime and will close our gym when advised to do so. We do estimate this will be in line with Government school closures.

We, like many other small business and charities are concerned about the future and are working hard to secure the financial stability of the club and our employees. We wish to continue all our community work as well as our club class offerings in the future so really do appreciate everyone who is able to continue supporting us during this time.

We wish all our members and staff safety through this challenging time. Please do continue checking our club website and social media for updates.

All our classes at Woking Gymnastics Club are currently continuing as normal and remain so unless we are instructed otherwise by the UK Government or British Gymnastics.

British Gymnastics has cancelled all National events (including the British Championships), and confirmed that all other club activities should continue as normal. We can confirm the English Championships are also cancelled.

We politely request all our members and staff to wash their hands following the guidelines set by Public Health England and the NHS on entry to Woking Gymnastics Club. We encourage everyone to continue to follow their advice.

• Washing your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds
• Always wash your hands when you get home or into work and before entering Woking Gymnastics Club
• Use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available
• Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze
• Put used tissues in the bin straight away and wash your hands afterwards
• Try to avoid close contact with people who are unwell
• Do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean

If you feel unwell, please stay at home and avoid coming into Woking Gymnastics Club. If this does occur, please notify us as soon as possible by telephone. Any changes to the Club’s normal operations will be immediately posted on our website and social media.

We encourage all members and staff to continue to follow advice from Public Health England and call NHS 111 if you are feeling unwell.

Please continue to regularly check our website, www.wokinggymnastics.co.uk and social media for any changes to our daily operations or approach in this rapidly evolving situation.

planning application for new facility

7/3/2019

Proposals to transform a former barn into a state-of-the-art gymnasium have been submitted by Woking Gymnastics Club for planning approval by Woking Borough Council.

Planning permission is being sought to change the former agricultural barn, located on land behind the garden centre on Egley Road, into an artistic gymnastics facility that will support the continued growth of the Club.

Lionel Smith-Gordon, Chair of Woking Gymnastics Club, said: “Since 2012, our Club membership has grown year-on-year. Whilst great for the sport locally, this has presented its own challenges as we have now reached our Kingfield site’s operating capacity, leaving us no alternative but seek an additional site within the Borough.

“After many false starts, agreement has been reached with Woking Borough Council to relocate to the Ten Acre Farm site in Mayford, however, this is unlikely to be until 2021.

“In the meantime, we are eager that the club continues to grow and see the conversion of the former agricultural barn into an additional gymnastics training facility as a suitable short-term alternative, while maintaining our Kingfield home.

“If planning consent is granted, the proposals would enable us to make significant investment in new Olympic-standard equipment that would enable more people of all ages and abilities to participate in gymnastics.”

It is anticipated that the planning application will be determined shortly and the minor internal works to convert the agricultural barn would begin immediately thereafter.  The Club intends to transfer some training classes to the new site while introducing further classes at Kingfield.
