In the Regional U12 category Rudi Moriano put in some of his best performances, top scoring on P-bar and H-Bar to take the All-Around silver. While Callum Lawrence narrowly missed out on a bronze medal despite top scoring on floor.
In the national U10 category Woking’s Josh Porter looked a different class. Performing skills with much greater difficulty than the rest of the field, he stormed to the gold medal scoring an impressive 65.5.
The coaching team were delighted with all the gymnasts, and it is hoped that this success will continue and they progress to bigger competitions.
In the afternoon session Woking’s older National gymnasts took centre stage.
In the National Under 12 age category Christian Fuoco, Laurence Butler and Charlie Rose all competed some new routines with Christian finishing 5th scoring 60.400, Laurence finished 7th scoring 57.700 and Charlie finished 10th scoring 53.200.
The National Under 14 category saw Fraser Griffiths compete on all 6 apparatus finishing 4th scoring 66.550. Jasper Smith-Gordon and James Miller only competed on 2 apparatus with James going clean on both and Jasper performed a good Parallel Bar routine but unfortunately fell twice on his new more difficult Pommel routine.
In the Under 16 age group Woking had Jamie Lewis, Lorenzo Carrozzo and Timothy McCarthy competing on 2 apparatus. Jamie performed a lovely Pommel routine with a medium error on his dismount scoring 13.900 over 3 marks above the nearest competitor. Jamie also competed on Rings where his difficult routine saw him score 13.450. Lorenzo competed on Pommels and Rings where he scored 10.900 and 11.550 respectively. Timothy performed 2 good routines scoring 11.600 on Rings and 12.500 on Parallel Bars.
The final age category was the National Under 18 competition and Miki Chu competed for Woking. Miki fell on Pommels scoring 12.000 and performed a new Ring routine scoring 12.200. Miki was the only competitor in the age group and was therefore crowned South East Under 18 Champion!
We are all looking forward to the English and British Championships coming up over the coming weeks.
