First up on the competition floor in Round 1 were our Level 5 gymnasts Tamara Venter and Ella Davies. Both competed well and their hard work was awarded with place in top 8 All Around for Ella and top 20 for Tamara in a very strong line-up. On top of that Ella managed to grab Bronze on A. Bars. In the same round Chloe Gibson competed Level 4. Chloe went round clean on all 4 pieces; considering her routines were still being tweaked up until the week before this was no mean feat!
Next one up in Round 2 in Level 4 10/11 years of age group was Jennifer O’Grady. Elegance combined with clean and confident work on each piece gave Jenny a total score of 45.025 and 12th place over all, just mark and a half away from the place in the podium.
Last but not least in Round 5 on Saturday night was Sierra Payne competing in the Level 5 12+ category. Other than an unfortunate fall on beam, she performed very nice routines and ended up finishing a very reasonable 3rd place on vault and 17th all around.
Amaea Dean was the first representative of Woking GC on Sunday morning. She took part in Level 4 – In Age section competing against some of the top girls in the country. Some unfortunate errors reflected on her Over All scores and she finished in 12th place. This section was one of the least crowded out of any other age groups, which shows how difficult is meet the requirements for this section.
Round 8 hosted the Level 3 – 11 years of age section, where in a fierce competition Charlie Lloyd went clean and with some very tiny mistakes managed to improve her Over All best from last comp to come 14th Over All with a total of 44.00 points.
In the very last round FIG and Level 3 – 13 + got together to define who was going home with the medals.
It was great opportunity for Amber Stevens and Sophie Miller to go out and try some new skills in preparation for the forthcoming Challenge Cup. And they both took this opportunity. Some great work from Amber Stevens, who had the highest start value on Bars and Beam out of all the girls on the competition field, well executed routines, elegance combined with difficulties and 6th place over all with a total of 45.275 plus 2nd place on Beam and 4th on Floor.
Despite the fact that was Sophie’s first competition for over two years she did very well finishing 11th Over All and 6th on Beam.
To top up the weekend Anna Gibson took home silver medal on Vault, came 6th on Bars and finished on the very creditable 5th place Over All.
Well done to all the girls who competed over the weekend and their coaches.
P.S. Special thanks to Chris Jones who kindly volunteered to take Round 5 on Saturday night that finished at …11:00pm!!!
