The English Championship 2010

The English Championship took place on Friday 5th, Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th March in Leicester.

Tobias Brewer took to the stage on Friday in the Under 13 age category.  Tobias competed very well after a fall on pommels in the first round.  Tobias finished 6th all-round and picked up a bronze medal on floor.

Grant Gardiner competed on Saturday in the Senior Men’s age group.  He was only a guest in the competition as Grant competes for Wales and was competing as a trial competition for the Commonwealth Games later in 2010.  His nerves got the better of him in a mixed day for the talented young gymnast.  A solid pommels, rings and parallel bars made up for other errors on the other apparatus and saw him finish in 2nd place in the ‘Guest Category’ scoring 77.5.

It was the Junior age groups turn on the Sunday and Woking had Tom Defina, Harry Carter, Bradley McBride and Miki Chu competing.  After a brilliant warm up from the Woking boys the competition was delayed due to an injury on vault.  This seemed to affect Bradley, who hurt himself on parallel bars and had to be withdrawn from the competition.  Harry Carter was flying after two solid routines on pommels and rings.  Unfortunately Harry landed short on his vault landing and also had to withdraw from the competition.  It was left to Tom and Miki to finish the job!  Tom performed extremely well after a dreadful start on pommels finishing 8th all round scoring 72.0 and collecting a bronze medal on rings.  Miki Chu finished 19th scoring 66.5.
