British Team Championships 2009

There are thousands of clubs in the UK but only a small handful are able to field an FIG team at the British Women's Team Championships. This prestigious competition held at the Guildford Spectrum over the weekend 23rd & 24th May drew all of the UK's top gymnasts with, Woking GC being one of those teams competing.

We were never in it to win it; just fielding a team in this competition is a great achievment in itself!

We have a very young & inexperienced squad with, no seasoned senior high-scorers to rely on and, following our own team selection process, we received the worst draw possible - first round, first day, starting on beam...

Our Team included Bethan Evans, Clare Maurer, Lauren Smith, Megan Everett & Sydney Elliott-Money; 4 gymnasts went up on each apparatus with the best 3 scores to count toward the team total. Thus, a complex statistical approach was adopted by coaches Natalie Reeve & Sarah Calvert in order to accrue the biggest team total for Woking both, during the team selection process and, devising who? would compete what? on the day.

The approach worked as, the girls performed well under the infamous "1st round / lower scores banner" to achieve an impressive 11th place overall and, defeating many other clubs that we thought we wouldn't!

Many Thanks! to Warriors Plumbing & Heating for supporting our Team at this important competition. If you have any plumbing, central heating, bathroom installation or tiling needs, please visit their website - www.plumberbracknell.com
